the ABC’s of
BECOMING A CHRISTIAN

Quite simply, to become a Christian there is something to ADMIT.
We need to admit that we are sinners, rebellious toward God and His ways. Our good works don’t bridge the gap between ourselves and God because they aren’t good enough; always tinged with selfishness and self-glory. The Bible says:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
ROMANS 3:23

We are far from God and need to ADMIT our inability to be holy before Him.
Then, there is something to BELIEVE.
There is a way to bridge the gap between ourselves and God; it is through a third party. Jesus came as God in the flesh and died on a cross as a sacrifice to pay for our sin. So we read in the Bible:

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.”
1 TIMOTHY 2:5

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God.”
1 PETER 3:18

We are called to BELIEVE that Jesus died for us and instead of us.

Thirdly, there is something to COMMIT.
We are called to commit our lives to Jesus Christ and acknowledge him as Lord, master, of our lives. The Bible says:

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
ROMANS 10:9

One more thing…there is something to DO.
We are to live daily with Christ as our King. Your confession will be worthless if it isn’t followed up by active obedience to His word. We Christians are people who seek to live under the rule of King Jesus.

Since Jesus Christ rose from the dead and is alive forever more, He will listen when you pray. So, why not pray a prayer now?
You can pray in your own words and your own way - God hears all prayers in any language. If you are not sure how to pray, here is a prayer to help you:

“Dear God, I admit that I am a sinner and need a Saviour.
I believe that Jesus is the Saviour I need.
I believe that He died on the Cross for my sin and rose on the third day.
I want Jesus to be Lord of my life, to direct my decisions and control my actions.
I will live for you and you alone.
In Jesus' name, Amen.”
