DAY BY DAY

Psalm 27 says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; of whom shall, I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” These are good questions!

DAY BY DAY, is a Scandinavian hymn, written by the ‘Fanny Crosby of Sweden’, Karolina Sandell-Berg…affectionately known as Lina. She was the daughter of Jonas Sandell, who was the pastor of the village Lutheran church. Though frail in body she had a strong spirit and feasted on the religious influences of her home life.

But tragedy struck one day when she was twenty-six. Lina and her father were enjoying a boat trip together, when suddenly the ship lurched. Lina watched as her father was pitched overboard and drowned. As she was processing her deep loss and grief, she found much comfort in the Scriptures. She began to express her faith in poetry. That same year in 1858, fourteen of her poems were published! One of the poems became her hymn DAY BY DAY.
