EASTER SONG

EASTER SONG was written by Annie Herring. The opening notes of this song, usually sung at Easter, may be the single most recognizable intro in contemporary Christian music still today. You have probably heard it!
It was first recorded in 1974 and released on the debut album from the group called "The 2nd Chapter of Acts." The words tell of Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the grave and the elation Christians feel and celebrate all around the world at Easter. Many main stream musicians have recorded the EASTER SONG over the years.
Annie was one of 9 children to Walter and Elizabeth Ward. Growing up in a home that was poor and that did not have indoor plumbing or other luxuries was challenging, yet the Ward family was rich in love, fun and music. As the family grew and began to leave home, both parents succumbed to illness within 2 years of each other. At the time of their deaths, there were younger children still at home, and the decision in the family was for the older siblings to invite the younger ones to live in their homes.
Annie had married Buck Herring in 1969 after both had left secular lives including drugs and involvement in the music industry. Buck had found new purpose when he committed his life to Jesus Christ. He began praying for Annie. The Holy Spirit led Annie to the same spiritual commitment.
When Annie’s younger sister Nelly, age 14, and her brother Matthew, age 12, came to live at their home, it wasn’t long before they started to sing together…mostly because that was what they used to do. Their voices blended and they harmonized very well. To make a longer story shorter, their trio work became known as The 2nd Chapter of Acts, and although it was not their plan to become in demand as a group, it happened anyway. Annie continued to write music that the group performed…until the trio disbanded in 1988.
Jesus lived, died and on the third day rose from the grave. He was triumphant over death and all who believe will also live! Certainly something to celebrate at Easter time and all year through!
