Born in 1942 in Columbus, Ohio, Lanny Wolfe became an American Christian songwriter, musician, music publisher and music educator. He has written over seven hundred songs and fourteen musicals. Lanny has recorded over 70 projects.
It all began when, in his youth, he learned how to play the piano by ear; a talent that was well used in his local church as he grew up. He later went on to higher education in music and began teaching worship music at a Pentecostal Bible School in California.
Several of his songs have been award winning compilations. Lanny’s song “More Than Wonderful” earned Sandi Patti and Larnelle Harris a Grammy Award. His song, "Rejoice with Exceeding Great Joy" has been used annually for the candle lighting ceremony at Epcot in Orlando, Florida.
His song, GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN ME, was written in 1973. Lanny was on a long drive through Nevada on his way to Montana one day. He recalls that it was a great trip just to meditate on well-known scriptures. He was specifically thinking about 1 John 4:4 where it says “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.” Lanny realized that what this passage was saying is, as Christians, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us the confidence and courage we need to face any obstacle!
Wolfe’s song, GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN ME, was used as the official closing song of the Oral Roberts Telecast which aired on 120 stations. Please walk in the confidence that comes with knowing Christ is with you!
