LEAD ME TO CALVARY

Jennie Hussey was born in Henniker, New Hampshire on February 8, 1874. She lived most of her life in a farmhouse that four generations of her Quaker ancestors had lived. She devoted much of her time to the care of her helpless, invalid sister.
Jennie was not known to complain or grumble, but instead displayed a cheerful personality. When weary, she would open her Bible and turn to the story of Calvary and there, she would find fresh strength.
Jennie eventually became disabled with deformative arthritis…yet her attitude remained positive. “Please, Lord,” she prayed, “make me willing to bear my cross daily without complaining because you bore yours for me.” Out of this experience she wrote her hymn, LEAD ME TO CALVARY.
Even though she had spent much of her life hidden away in the country farm house, she had a deep desire for any opportunity to tell everyone…that she loved Jesus. And so, her hymn lives on today to do just that!
LEAD ME TO CALVARY are Jennie’s words about her love for Jesus…her Saviour! May they resonate in your heart today.
