MARY DID YOU KNOW...

In 1984, while Mark Lowry was writing a program for the Living Christmas Tree at his church, he became fascinated with the concept that God came to earth. In a conversation with his mother...herself a singer, songwriter and pianist...she made a profound statement to Mark when she said, “If anyone on earth knew for sure that Jesus was virgin born – Mary knew!”
Mark began to write a list of questions that he would like to ask Mary if he ever had the chance. Questions like, “Mary, do you know who is in your arms?” and “Did you know that He is the one who holds creation together?” or “Mary, did you know that those lips spoke the worlds into existence?”
Mark carried his lyrics with him for 7 years. But in 1991, he handed the lyrics to his friend Buddy Greene asking him to write suitable music for them. After holding on to the words for a couple of weeks, Buddy pulled them out and wrote the music in just 30 minutes. When he called and played the music over the phone to Mark, he was ecstatic and exclaimed, “That’s it!!”
They took the new song to Michael English who became the first person to record MARY, DID YOU KNOW. Marks inspiration has become a favourite...played on radio programs and sung in concerts throughout the year.
