NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS

Before time began, God established that the consequence of rejecting God and turning away from Him in sin was eternal separation from God. In clear knowledge of this truth, mankind sinned and allowed their relationship with God to be broken. Now, only God alone could restore His relationship with mankind... His beloved creation.
Recognizing this truth, the renowned preacher and educator, Robert Lowry, composed our hymn today. The text for NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS was written in 1876. It became a popular addition in many hymn books and was part of the singing at what became known as ‘camp meetings’ in that era.
Camp Meetings were times when people in the frontiers of developing North America, and who had no regular Minister, could come together for spiritual encouragement. Included in these meetings was the singing of hymns and encouraging Biblical teaching from usually several itinerant preachers. Because some travelled a good distance to attend, they would set up camp and stay for several days. It was a forerunner to present day Christian summer camping facilities. Robert Lowry’s hymn was first popularized at the Camp Meetings in Ocean Grove, New Jersey.
Our separation from God because of sin can only be changed because of the love of God…and NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS.
