SINCE JESUS CAME INTO MY HEART

Jesus says in the Gospel of John, chapter 14 and verse 1, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” These words became very meaningful to Rufus McDaniel who was licensed to preach when he was only 19. Soon after, he was ordained into the Christian Church and was married.
His blessings were increased with the birth of their three children, Clarence, Minnie and Herschel. His firstborn, Clarence followed in his father’s foot steps and became a minister in the church. His daughter, Minnie, married an Ohio boy and lived nearby in Dayton. Herschel broke his father’s heart by his untimely death in 1913
After Rufus buried his son, he realized anew that joy and contentment cannot be based on human affection or an external gift. These flow only from an endless relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. It was out of this experience that McDaniel wrote, SINCE JESUS CAME INTO MY HEART. Although he wrote over 100 other hymns, this is the only one that has endured.
When you place your life by faith in the hands of Jesus, you then begin to understand what becoming a new creation means. As the song says, “Floods of joy o’er my soul, like the sea billows roll.” What peace and contentment…SINCE JESUS CAME INTO MY HEART.
